What is an earthing pillow cover?

The Zero Volt Pillow Cover is a pink pillow case with a brass-coloured conductive grid on it. It comes with its own cord, which links the grid to the earth point of a properly earthed socket, so the place where your head and neck rest is connected to earth. You can use it on its own or alongside the Zero Volt Bedsheet. It is a comfort product, not a medical treatment.

The cover has no battery and no heating wire, and it takes no power from the mains. It works like any pillow case: you slip it over your pillow and sleep on it. The difference is the grid and the cord.

A small first step

Why start with a grounding pillow case instead of a full sheet?

Your face, cheek and neck rest on the pillow for most of the night, whichever way you turn. For someone who is curious about earthing but not ready to change their whole bed, the cover is the smallest and lowest-cost way to try it.

• It is the lowest-priced earthing item in the shop and only needs to be slipped over a pillow.
• If you like the routine, you can add the Zero Volt Bedsheet later to cover the rest of the bed.

One thing to know before you choose: the published sleep research used a conductive mattress pad under the whole body, not a pillow case. More on that below.

The idea

How is grounding through a pillow supposed to work?

Earthing is the practice of keeping your skin in contact with the ground, either directly, as when you walk barefoot on grass, or through a conductive surface wired to the earth. Indoors, a properly wired home already has an earth wire running to each three-pin socket. The pillow cover uses that earth wire, through its cord, so your skin touches a grounded surface while you sleep.

Supporters of earthing believe this contact helps people relax and sleep. That belief rests on very little data so far, as the research section shows. We describe the cover as a calming addition to a bedtime routine, nothing more.

What comes with the Zero Volt Pillow Cover?

As shown in the supplier photos, the parcel holds three things. We confirm the kit when you order.

The pillow itself is not included; the cover goes over a pillow you already have. Keep the instruction sheet from the box, because it shows how the cord attaches to this cover and how the tester is used.

Step by step

How to fit and connect an earthing pillow cover

1. 1

   Make sure the socket is truly earthed

   A three-pin socket is not always earthed. Before you use the cover for the first time, get the socket by your bed tested with a mains tester or by an electrician. If the earth is missing, have a proper earth point put in before going further.

2. 2

   Put the cover on your pillow

   Slip the cover over your pillow so the grid faces up, where your cheek and neck will lie. Do not add a second pillow case over it, as your skin needs to touch the grid. If you also use the Zero Volt Bedsheet, spread it over the mattress and sleep directly on it.

   Join the cord: cover first, socket second

   Attach the cord to the cover, then plug it into the earth point, following the printed instructions in the box. Still unsure? Send us a picture of your socket on WhatsApp and wait for our reply before connecting.

   Leave it plugged in while you sleep

   The cover is meant to stay connected all night. Run the cord behind the bedside table or along the headboard so it does not trail across the floor.

   Keep your room as you like it

   Use your fan, cooler or AC and your usual blanket. The only rule: never put the cover, or the bedsheet, over an electric blanket or heated pad.

Care

Can you wash an earthing pillow case?

Yes, but the cord must come off first. Pillow cases pick up hair oil, sweat and face cream faster than a sheet does, so you may be washing this one often. Each time: pull the plug out of the socket, then detach the cord from the cover as the supplied instructions show.

The cord and plug are never washed and must stay dry. For the cover itself, go by its care label and the instructions supplied with it. We have not been given wash temperatures or drying methods, so we leave that to the label. Plug the cord back in only when the cover is completely dry.

If the grid looks worn through, or the cord or plug is damaged, stop using the cover and contact us.

Evidence

Is there any research on earthing pillow covers?

Not that we could find. The studies on grounding and sleep tested whole-body contact, not a pillow case on its own, and even those are thin.

Taken together: grounding has been looked at in only a few small, short pilot studies, mostly using self-reported results, and large placebo-controlled trials do not exist yet. Nothing here tells us what a pillow cover alone does. Please think of it as a supportive lifestyle product that some people find relaxing.

The cover has its own cord, so it works without the sheet. Some people start with the cover and later add the Zero Volt Bedsheet. Others want both from day one and choose the Pillow + Bedsheet Combo, which puts the two pieces and their accessories in one order.

Who may like it: adults curious about earthing who want a low-cost trial, or people who already sleep on the bedsheet and want contact at the head as well.
